Our Thin Veil of Existence
Our Thin Veil of Existence
2012
A current body of sculptural works under the name – Our Thin Veil of Existence – by Robert Studer. Inspired by driftwood birch bark, the remnant traces of trees, this work was created in glass which was cast and hand formed inside a kiln at temperatures of 1400 deg F. The typically rigid and unforgiving material is impressionable and pliable in the extreme heat, allowing Robert to manipulate complex constructions that are rarely seen in glass.
The documentary video by Craig Anderl – a curious nature – explores the process and creative reasonings of the work and is well worth the watch.
